Pastry Chef/ Gelato Confectioner

Job brief

  • To prepare a variety of desserts, pastries ,gelato or other sweet goods. Your skill in baking high quality treats and gelato making should be matched by your creativity to develop new amazing tastes and recipes.
  • The goal is to enhance customer satisfaction so that we can maintain and expand our clientele.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a wide variety of goods such as gelato, chocolates,cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc. following traditional and modern recipes.
  • Create new and exciting desserts to renew our menus and engage the interest of customers.
  • Decorate gelato/pastries using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting.
  • Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make appropriate orders within budget.
  • Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking.
  • Guide and motivate pastry assistants and bakers to work more efficiently.
  • Identify staffing needs and help recruit and train personnel.
  • Maintain a lean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards.
  • To report for duty punctually wearing the correct uniform.
  • To provide a courteous and professional service at all times.
  • To ensure a smooth service is maintained at all times and good communication with all outlet supervisors is maintained.
  • To comply with appropriate legislation.
  • To maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene at all times.
  • To maintain a good rapport and working relationship with staff in other departments.
  • To attend all meetings as required by the management.
  • To have a complete understanding of comply with company’s policy relating to Fire, Hygiene, Health and Safety.
  • To be completely conversant with the company’s employee handbook and at all times comply with the regulations.
  • To conduct meetings and briefings as necessary to keep the staff informed and managed efficiently
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned or as considered necessary.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as Gelato Confectioner/ Pastry Chef, baker or relevant role.
  • Great attention to detail and creativity.
  • Organizing and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to replenish professional knowledge.
  • In depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and baking techniques and nutrition.
  • Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.).
  • Certificate in culinary arts, gelato-making, pastry-making, baking or relevant field.
  • Up-to-date with culinary trends and optimized kitchen processes.
  • Credentials in health and safety training.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Active listening and effective communication skills.
  • Team spirit.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts.
